Hell Fire Club

Whenever there is a slight chance of a beautiful day, I feel like going out for a walk. This is especially true after a week of miserable cold weather. The weather report was not forecasting any rain that weekend and the temperature was going to rise up to about 10 degrees celcius. So I dragged the kids along for a short hike up Hell Fire Club.
The great thing about outdoor activities in Dublin is that we are always near some hiking or walking trail. Normally a half hour drive from home, nearer if you happen to stay in South Dublin. Most of the trails are well marked with signs and clear path. Compared to Malaysia, we don’t sweat at all during the hikes as it is cold. In fact, hiking does help to keep the body warm. In Malaysia, I would be sweating and sticky all just after getting out of the car.

Straight up
Thinking of the kids, we actually took the muddy shortcut straight up to the ruins of Hell Fire Club. We think getting the kids straight to the good stuff, then slowly walk down is a good idea. Firstly, if we had taken the longer way up, they would keep asking when will they get there. Secondly, if we go down on the shortcut, it would be too slippery. So my advice, is to take the shortcut up then slowly walk down.

The View
Can see most of Dublin from the top. It is an open field with clear vantage. We went on a pretty cloudy / foggy day and can make up the silhouette of Howth. Definitely make out Poolbeg Chimney

Go Early
We went on a Sunday, arrived around 10-ish. Was able to get a car park as someone has left. There’s about 3-4 cars waiting for parking. After the hike, we were able to go into the city for lunch (when restaurants open around 12.30pm on a Sunday). When we came down around 11-ish, there was a long queue of cars coming into the car park. The queue was all the way out to the main road, so there’s quite a jam. So do go early to get a car park.
